World Food Prize - Astonishing

I love taking the time to explore new and unfamiliar ground...ESPECIALLY when it takes place in this great city called Des Moines.

Last week I journeyed down to the newly renovated [although the word renovated DOES not do this magnificent structure justice] World Food Prize building. In fact, it is $29.8 million worth of fabulous!

What once was the century-old Des Moines Public Library Building is now a home to castle like tapestries, ornamental bowls, world class art work, floor to ceiling murals, stain glassed windows, breathtaking sculptures, original skylights, and.....a stunning outdoor garden.

The building serves as a world-class museum, a convocation center for events, a home for the Global Youth Institute, an educational facility with interactive displays, and a conference center and event space available tor rent.

Founded in 1986, the World Food Prize "Recognizes those who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, or availability of food in the world"
Their mission:

  • Recognize "Nobel-like" achievements in the fight to eliminate world hunger: The World Food Prize
  • Facilitate the interaction of global leaders in science, agribusiness, and policy to create lasting solutions: The Borlaug Dialogue
  • Empower the youth of today to be the leaders of tomorrow in the quest to feed a hungry world: The Global Youth Institute
THE WORLD FOOD PRIZE HALL OF LAUREATES IS AVAILABLE FOR RENTALS Meetings, conferences, WEDDINGS and other events. *highly recommend
